An Endless Love

Love, that mysterious phenomenon that sends man on endless quests. Is there much more profundity to love than simple chemistry? Anyone who has been touched by love can speak for the transcendental nature of this experience, for it is much more than an emotion. It has the undeniable quality of elevating the human experience. Of making life appear infinitely more beautiful and significantly more meaningful. Of turning a black-and-white world into a high-definition Van Gogh.

Love can happen in myriad ways. It can happen in an unsuspecting, serendipitous moment when you gaze into the eyes of another and see your own self reflected. Time and space have no relevance in the truth of the moment when you stumble across love in its purest form. In a sense, you both freeze and catch fire in the same moment. And that moment is enough to last a lifetime.

The natural desire that arises once such love happens to you is to hold on to it. To want to recreate the magic of that moment. But like all things of subtlety, the wisps of love can slip through your fingers with the same ease that you chanced upon it. There is little you can do to hold on to love. For once it enters your life, it is you that is held by it, forever.

Such love once touched me too. It altered my very alchemy. I rose and fell in it many times like a piece of driftwood on a tempestuous ocean. I was often sorely wounded, only to be revived and reborn. Such is love. It has an inherent purity that shields you even in the darkest of times, never once letting you down or letting you leave its sacred hold.

The love I speak of in my experience is not just romantic although it was that too. It may have had its origin in the eyes of another but it opened up new dimensions within me. It unlocked the passage to my being showing me glimpses of my pristine nature -uncluttered, free, and vibrantly alive. It was my very first step toward transcendence. It continues to be the most powerful talisman of my spiritual journey; a silver cloak of enduring faith and eternal love. For such love, there can be no end and it does not seek to be requited for it is already complete. And that is its greatest gift.
